Orlando Health - Residents' Day
Sponsored by Isabel
Orlando Health held its First Annual Resident day with Isabel Healthcare as its sponsor. Each resident received a free one-year subscription to Isabel.
The day included residents presentations of their research posters, one of which studied the use of Isabel’s Diagnosis Decision Support System. Dr. Jay Falk, the Chief Academic Medical Officer at Orlando Health said the day was a huge success. Dr. Falk encouraged more resident research posters with the Isabel diagnosis system.
Winning presenters received prizes, including iPads, iTouches and Nanos.

Isabel Success: Lakewood Family Medicine
Did you "Isabel" your Patient?
Case Summary: A 14 year old male with a four year history of recurring fever and persistent joint pain sought treatment at Lakewood Family Medicine. His severe pain limited his ability to engage in physical activity. An initial diagnosis of Ankylosing Spondylitis was made, and he was referred to a rheumatologist. Because he was misdiagnosed that treatment plan failed, and he was referred back to his practitioner at Lakewood Family Medicine.
Isabel Diagnosis Checklist Results: The physician entered the symptoms and demographics into Isabel which indicated that Lyme’s disease was a likely diagnosis. With that information, the doctors ordered lab tests and were soon able to make a correct diagnosis of Lyme’s Disease. The patient began treatment and responded well during a four-week treatment plan -– a significant improvement over the four-year battle of symptoms. The patient was now able to ride his bike for six miles and spend an hour on batting practice – which are activities he could not do prior to the Isabel-aided diagnosis.
Case provided by Dr. Tim Smith, Lakewood Family Medicine

Physicians Rely on Isabel for Success
Physicians at South Arkansas Medical Associates (SAMA) use Isabel for diagnosis doubt, often with their patients to help explain the thought-process of finding possible diagnoses and rule out obvious and not-so-obvious diagnoses. Doctors describe to the patient what Isabel does, enter the data, and then discuss the diagnostic suggestions that Isabel presents. Using Isabel with patients has helped physicians reassure the patient of their thought process and thoroughness. They have been able to allay patient fears regarding the possibility of the serious illness they suspected and reassure the patient with the level of consideration that is being placed into determining an accurate diagnosis.
