Isabel Diagnosis Education and Assessment System [IDEAS]IDEAS has been shown to increase diagnosis decision making quality. The Department of Pediatrics at University of Virginia showed that in 15 of the 150 cases completed (10%), IDEAS caused a resident user to include a major diagnosis that had not been considered and should have. The mean diagnostic quality score increased significantly after residents consulted the IDEAS system. IDEAS enables educators to set a gold standard for salient clinical features for each case. It also allows educators to capture, score, compare, calibrate and feedback users skills in extracting key / salient clinical features and a user’s cognitive skills in creating adifferential diagnosis, as well as constructing a management and treatment plan for a given case. IDEAS by providing the user with a diagnosis checklist and disease specific corroborative knowledge for the clinical features entered enables and instill the cognitive discipline of “What other diagnoses do I need to consider?” In the process IDEAS introduces students& trainees to the culture of using checklists for the cognitive process of diagnosis decision making. |
